Pineapple Fest Kicks Off This Month
The sweetest festival in The Islands Of The Bahamas will kick off this month as the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (BMOTA) presents the 31st Annual Pineapple Festival in beautiful Gregory Town, Eleuthera, from May 31-June 2. The annual Pineapple Festival is a summer festival that embodies the global symbol of hospitality, while celebrating the tradition of pineapple farming in Eleuthera.
The event began in 1988 and primarily honors pineapple farmers for their exceptional contributions to the community.
The Festival also creates awareness around the harvesting of pineapples and the important agricultural heritage of this sweet tropical fruit.
Events Director at BMOT Charity Armbrister said this year promises to be even more exciting than ever before.
“It really is the sweetest festival because so many creative things are done, not only with creating dishes with the pineapple, but also the entertainment,” she said.
“It is great for the whole family and visitors love to hear about the true story of the pineapple on Eleuthera.”
Throughout the day, there will be entertainment for the whole family including a ‘Kids World’ filled with fun games.
There will be culinary and mixology competitions along with pineapple fun sports like the pineapple eating and peeling, coconut barking and grating contests and hoola hoop, among other games.
On Thursday night, the concert segment of the festival will open with performances by the Cooling Waters and other local gospel groups.
The entertainment continues on Friday night with performances by Veronica Bishop and Stevie S .
The concert finale on Saturday night will be headlined by Levant "Blaudy" Pratt, Stileet and D-Mac, with performances by other top local performing artists. The evening will close out in grand style with a showstopping performance by the Royal Bahamas Defense Force Band and a Junkanoo rush out.
