Reginald Saunders
Permanent Secretary of Tourism & Aviation
In January 2021, Reginald Saunders was appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism & Aviation. Mr. Saunders was most recently the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, having previously served as Under Secretary at both the Ministry of the Environment and Housing, and the Ministry of Health. A longtime public officer, the bulk of his career was spent at the Ministry of Education where in 2003 he served as Administrator of the Scholarship Division for fifteen years. During this time, he oversaw the Bahamas Government’s Guarantee Loan Programme and led the development and subsequent implementation of the Government of the Bahamas National Scholarship Programme. In 2018, he was appointed Under Secretary at the Ministry of Education. Prior to joining the Public Service, Mr. Saunders worked as a Portfolio Manager at McDermott International Investments Company, and as a Financial Analyst at IBM Bahamas Limited.
Mr. Saunders is proud of his community service record, having joined the Rotary Club of Southeast Nassau in 2004 and serving as its President in 2011. He has also served, and continues to serve, in various other directorship positions in Rotary. He has additionally been a member of numerous scholarship foundations and committees for nearly 20 years. A graduate of St. Anne’s High School, Mr. Saunders holds degrees from the College of The Bahamas (AA), the University of Windsor (BCom.), and Eastern Michigan University (MBA). A proud member of Holy Cross Anglican Church, Mr. Saunders and his wife, Kamala Saunders (née Jupp), have three children.
