Derek Luke Says The Late Dr. Myles Munroe Changed His Life

He preached to millions all over the world about faith and purpose, and through this message the Late Dr. Myles Munroe drew many visitors to The Bahamas.

 A year after his death, Dr. Munroe is still drawing international leaders and celebrities to the shores of The Bahamas.

 During the recent launch of the Myles and Ruth Munroe Foundation at Atlantis Paradise Island, actor Derek Luke, who is well-known for his roles in movies like Antwone Fisher, Baggage Claim, Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes To Jail among others said the late inspirational leader became like a father to him.

 “He became a father through his teachings and through his writings,” he said. “My mother never gave me any book but the bible growing up. But when we were moving to New Jersey, she gave me this book called the Pursuit of Purpose. When I finished the book, people were so amazed on how I spoke, but every time I spoke, I felt Dr. Munroe was standing right next to me.

 “Literally, being an agent of change was just mimicking the words that came from his heart that touched my heart. It was the reason why I couldn’t just act, but I had to act with a purpose.” 

 Munroe along with his wife Ruth and nine others perished in a plane crash in Grand Bahama on November 9, 2014.

 To commemorate his memory, the Munroes’ children Myles Jr. and Charissa recently established the Myles and Ruth Munroe Foundation that includes the Munroe Institute – a first-class institute that will showcase the work and teachings of Dr. Myles and Ruth Munroe.

 Myles Jr. said they are simply carrying forth their parents’ message.

 “The kingdom and the kingdom message has been the core message that they have been spreading and peels off into leadership. There are so many layers of it and that is what we want to carry forward,” he said. 

 “We couldn’t be more pleased with the support that we have received and it shows us that we are doing something right and we hope that we continue to get the support for many years to come.”

 The children have spent a lot of the year travelling since their parent’s death. The Munroes have been in numerous places in the US, South Africa and Israel.

 “We have been invited to speak and people wanted to show us that they have our backs and that they are here to support us. We got a lot of invitations just to be honoured,” Ms. Munroe said.

 “We have been continuing their work through people. My dad and mom loved people and we have a good people support and we want to continue that and maintain that,” she said.

 Mr. Munroe said he and his sister plan to hold numerous conferences to draw people to The Bahamas.

 “We plan to continue that work and we want to implement some new conferences like events and seminars to continue to bring tourists to the island and continue to expose them to The Bahamas through Religious Tourism,” he said.

“My father was the pioneer and the one that started it all and we will continue that trend through his honor and through his name and in the Munroe Legacy.”
