Bahamas To Host First Ever Charter Show
All Proceeds Go To Ranfurly Homes For Children
Nassau, BAHAMAS: Yachting will be on full display come February 27- March 1 as the destination prepares to host the inaugural Bahamas Charter Show.
Worldwide Boat, a luxury charter company, is hosting the event in conjunction with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (BMOTA) and the Bahamas Marina Association at the Bay Street Marina and the highly anticipated One Particular Harbor at The Pointe.
Director-General of Tourism, Joy Jibrilu, says the yachting market continues to grow, and the Bahamas Charter Show gives the destination an opportunity to not only strengthen its brand and attract more yachters but show the world that it can also host major industry shows.
“Yachting is a very lucrative market, and the Bahamas Charter Show is long overdue. We look forward to giving the brokers, captains, and crew a top-notch experience, so they sell and recommend our destination,” she said.
“Our marinas continue to make major investments to accommodate superyachts as well, and they are very passionate about making this the premier yachting destination of the region. The Islands Of The Bahamas have many assets and unique benefits, including our natural resources, that give us a competitive edge; so, it’s up to us to strategically penetrate this market to realize its potential.”
President of Worldwide Boat, Sanaa Vohra, said the company’s customers using 15 of its luxury charter yachts have made Nassau a “homeport” year-round.
“For all that The Bahamas has done for our business, it’s of the utmost importance to give back. The Bahamas Charter Show will reinforce to the yachting community that while the Abacos and Grand Bahama rebuild from the damage inflicted by Hurricane Dorian last year, the rest of the country is very much opened for business. This show will educate the international brokerage community about the boundless charter opportunities and share the importance of the local economic and social impact that luxury yachting brings to the country,” she said.
Ms. Vohra further explained what makes The Bahamas appealing to yacht enthusiasts.
“The Bahamas is a natural for yachting. Features like world-class fishing and diving, crystal-clear shallow waters, soft white and pink sand beaches, plus 340 days of sunshine, satisfy almost every water and land-based desire,” she added.
The four-day event will include presentations by local industry experts, marina tours and an invite-only yacht viewing show along with other social events.
The Bahamas Charter Show is non-profit as all proceeds will go to the Ranfurly Home’s Step program, designed for young adults 18 years or more who need a stepping-stone for the next chapter of their lives.
“Our goal is to raise more than $110,000 – the cost of one housing unit at The Step. This will allow Ranfurly to expand and serve more young adults who have aged out of foster or group home systems to avoid homelessness in Nassau,” Ms. Vohra said.
