Bahamas wins while TV contestants lose
Grand Bahama Island gained media attention and audience exposure through playing host to the popular television show, Extreme Weight Loss. The ABC television show, now in its fifth season, shot two episodes on Grand Bahama.
The first will air August 26. The island is the backdrop to several physical challenges in which cast members will participate in their overall quest to lose extreme weight levels.
Grand Lucayan Beach and Golf Resort and the Bahamas Film & Television Commission partnered with the show's producers to identify breathtaking and exciting locations for the show.
The episodes will take viewers to scenic ocean and landscapes in Freeport and other areas of Grand Bahama.
"We are excited that areas such as Peterson Cay and Owl's Hole will be highlighted for close to 3 million viewers," said Clarence Rolle, general manager of the Bahamas Film Commission.
"We appreciate even more that Extreme Weight Loss found ways to integrate Bahamian culture into the episodes. So viewers will see more than sun, sand and sea. They will also get special insights into our cuisine, music and dance."
Extreme Weight Loss is hosted by Chris and Heidi Powell, married personal trainers and authors who are dedicated to assisting others in becoming and saying physically fit.
