Balearia's Continued Service to Grand Bahama Island
After the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew, the Balearia Caribbean executive team has been committed to ensuring that Grand Bahama Island continues to thrive.
For almost three weeks, the island of Grand Bahama has been in recovery mode to ensure that all businesses involved in the industry provide an even better tourism product than before.
After the passing of Hurricane Matthew, the team at Balearia Caribbean knew that it was imperative to provide the necessary resources for the restoration of the island as quickly as possible.
As one of the first ships to operate after the storm, the Balearia was able to provide relief supplies and access to the island for the technicians who were brought in specifically to assist with restoring water and power supply.
Mario Otero, COO, Balearia Caribbean, notes that "We are a committed corporation to the areas where we operate, and for us Grand Bahama Island is part of our family”.
He added that, “Since day one we have cooperated with the government of the Bahamas to try to minimize the difficulties the island faces".
The ship was made readily available to transport heavy cargo, as well as the many resources which were necessary to accelerate the process of restoration on Grand Bahama Island.
Thanks to 21st century communication technology, the Balearia was also able to share constant updates of its efforts and Grand Bahama’s process of rebuilding via email, phone calls, and local newspapers.
According to Laura Clavel, Communications and International Relations, Balearia, "We have been able to reach out, not only to the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, but also to local authorities and customers".
For the executive team of Balearia, access to communication in such a difficult time has proved to be critical to remaining operational after the hurricane.
In fact, in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, Balearia Caribbean ran the BOGO promotion, and daytrip special, and for ten days, offered a discount of more than forty percent off on all pallets and bins to customers wishing to utilize Balearia's services.
Additionally, as of last week Balearia Caribbean has commenced the promotion of its "Day Trip" at Paradise Cove Beach, with complimentary beach access and transportation.
Although hotel reservations have been impacted as a result of storm damage to many properties on Grand Bahama, the Balearia Caribbean continues to sail daily, except Mondays and Wednesdays.
The cruise ferry’s management team trusts that with the charm of the island, there will be a fast recovery to its tourism economy
