Country Music Star Phil Vassar Falls in Love With Bimini

Country music star Phil Vassar can’t stop talking about a small island in The Bahamas: Bimini.

Home of some of the most famous bonefishing guides on the planet, Bimini is known for hosting legendary Americans.

Writer Ernest Hemmingway visited the island several times and civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. penned parts of his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech while roaming this quant island.

Located just 50 miles off Florida, Bimini boasts miles of pristine beaches.

Phil was visiting Bimini for the first annual Resorts World Bimini Wahoo Challenge.

He performed a free concert for resort guests and anglers on February 4.

“Wasn’t that fun? I’m in Bimini hanging out and it’s a beautiful place. I always wanted to come here. I’ve been to The Bahamas but I’ve never been to this island. I’m coming back. What a resort. This is a gorgeous place. We had a good time playing. I had fun,” Vassar said.

For two hours Phil played some of his greatest hits and also took requests from the crowd. He performed a few covers including Bob Marley’s I Shot the Sherriff, Billy Joel’s Piano Man, Rick Springfield’s Jessie’s Girl and Prince’s Purple Rain.

His energy was amazing and only amplified by the intimate space he performed in.

“It was a great crowd. I had so much fun and I got to have a drink with everybody after the show and talk to everybody,” Vassar said.

Before the show, Vassar spent the day exploring the island noting that he had a great time at Joe’s Conch Stand.

“I had some conch and some seafood and it was just amazing. The folks here, I can’t get over how amazing they are and how nice everybody has been to us. We’ve been all over the world and it’s not always been like this. I’m going to come back. Matter of fact, I think I’m going to stay,” he said.
