Edward St. George Memorial Golf Tournament "Inaugural Event"
In celebration of Edward St. Georges’ contribution to athletics in Grand Bahama, the Ministry of Tourism, in conjunction with several partnering organizations, celebrated the opening of the inaugural Edward St. George Memorial Golf Tournament at the Reef Golf Course on Friday, September 23rd, 2016.
All of the winners of the Edward St. George Memorial Golf Tournament this past Saturday 24th of September 2016, at the Reef Course golf Course, Grand Bahama Island.
According to tournament Director and Vice Chairman of the GB Sport Promotional Organization, Ambrose Gouthro, the tournament was created to recognize St. Georges’ commitment to the growth of Grand Bahama.
It was also used as an outlet to raise funds for young people on the island through the Golf Federation and the Michael Thompson Sports segment.
The event featured 14 teams from New Providence, Grand Bahama, and The United States, as well as celebrity guest, Pauline Thompson Davis, Golden Girl and Olympic gold medalist.

Jimmy Sands, President of the Bahamian Brewery, highlighted the fact that “We are trying to rejuvenate the golf here in Grand Bahama, after all, Grand Bahama needs such a thing with these lovely golf courses they did have and we want to maintain the ones that still exist today”.
Nuvolari Chootisingh, Manager of Sports Tourism, Grand Bahama, said that “It's a good step forward in getting golf tournaments back on Grand Bahama Island. It’s a major part of our product that we’ve been missing very much since the closure of many of the golf courses on the island”.
In the future, local organizers hope to include the wider community of Grand Bahama and facilitate a major event to attract golf enthusiasts to Grand Bahama Island.
After a successful inaugural event, the golf tournament concluded on Sunday, September 25th with a seal of approval from all sponsors and those in attendance.As a major supporter of this sporting event, the Ministry of Tourism anticipates next year’s tournament to be executed at a world class level with a campaign that reaches the overseas market.
