The Future Is Now
Over the course of three days, hundreds of technology enthusiasts gathered at the Grand Lucayan Resort for the 2nd Grand Bahama Technology Summit.
With companies like CISCO Systems Inc., Carnival Corporation, Cybernetica, AISAP, Red Hat, Palo Alto Networks, VMware, Cloud Carib, Dell EMC, among many others participating in the event, the Grand Bahama Technology Summit was a world-class event which attracted various industry leaders from around the world.
In addition to top-notch presentations, attendees were also able to participate in certification courses and workshops which were offered to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the technology industry.
Under the theme “The Future is Now”, Senator the Hon. J. Kwasi Thompson said, “We are just really touching the surface of really where we could go. We have the nuts and bolts of what we need; we have good infrastructure; we have the location, and the raw talent and so it makes for a good pool that we can put together.”
Regarding the level of attraction as it relates to Grand Bahama Island becoming the Silicon Island of the region, Thompson said, “We believe there is high interest in the number of investors who have come to the summit and we see the number of big tech companies who’ve come and represented themselves here. We believe that there’s so much potential.”
By only focusing on companies which bring value to Grand Bahama Island as well as to The Islands Of The Bahamas, there is hope that those interested will bring investment, training opportunities, and development to the island.
Such technological developments would directly affect the socio-economic landscape of the country by diversifying the entire industry product.
Regarding tourism, visitors will not only choose to travel for vacation but also for access to a highly developed technological market, should this vision come to pass.
As information technology is an attractive aspect to business, by continuing to host such dynamic technological events, Grand Bahama Island can be positioned to reap more benefits in the future.
Key elements of the summit included reviewing the Information Technology Industry as a possible third pillar of the economy, branding Grand Bahama Island as the capital for industry and innovation, creating a networking hub for local and international businesses, and providing a platform for Bahamians in Silicon Valley.
This year’s Grand Bahama Technology Summit was proudly supported by the Ministry of Tourism & Aviation.
