Goombay Summer Festival moved to Saturdays
Just when you thought your Saturdays were back to normal, we’re back with the perfect finale to your summer.
Goombay Summer Festival began in 1974 on Bay Street and has since moved to Arawak Cay and evolved into a grandeur display of the world renowned Bahamian rhythm and dance.
Every Saturday in August, you’re invited to feel the rhythms of the Bahamas with the pulsations of the goatskin drums, the kalik of the cowbells and sounds of the conch-shell horns as they come together to create a hypnotic rhythm known as Goombay.
August 6 – August 27
Goombay celebrates the cultural of the Bahamas, so what better way than to fully immerse guests in the Bahamian culture?
Try your hand at conch blowing, rake n’ scrape, plaiting the maypole or learn how to catch a crab that you may just get to take home. If an experience that keeps your heart rate low is up your alley, there are activities for you as well. Whatever it is you’re feeling, you’ll leave a little more Bahamian and satisfied.
After you’ve tried all the vendors, participated in all the competitions as your heart will allow you to, the Goombay Concert Series starts every Saturday at 9 p.m. If you love dancing and great performances, grab a Kalik and enjoy this party. No one else will do it better.
