Lights. Camera. Fashion
October 26th, 2017 is quickly approaching and continuous preparations are being made around the clock to ensure that the nation becomes the epicentre of the global fashion market during its inaugural Bahamas Fashion Week. The 3-day fashion extravaganza will include a fashion museam which will showcase evolutionary pieces from eight local designers who have been in the industry for fifteen years or more. The museam is sponsored by The Diamond International Crown of Light line, whose proceeds will go to the Cancer Society of The Bahamas. In addition, attendees will be able to attend exciting educational workshops, a cultural village, fashion shows, powerful panel discusions and exclusive after-parties!
The Executive Team for Bahamas Fashion Week under the leadership of Founder and Producer Joe Stubbs III, is excited to bring this event to the limelight of reality. Bahamas Fashion Week is tremendously supported by fifteen (15) sponsors including: Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture, The Cancer Society of The Bahamas, Diamonds International, The Island Game, 700 Wines & Spirits, Moet & Chandon Champagne, Sapodilla Restaurant, Suntee, Lowes Pharmacy, Executive Printers, The Art Room, Prince Lewis Beverages, Amarkai Design Studio and Corporate Concierge.
In late August, a models casting call was held. Models from all walks of local and international life gave their all during the session. A total of one-hundred twenty (120) prospective models were auditioned, measured, photographed, and gave their best walk! The playing field has since been levelled down to sixty-four (65) models: 19 males and 45 females. Even Miss USA Kansas 2016 is confirmed to be in attendance.
With models taken cared of, it was now time to host a designers call - gathering an eclectic group of designers who will use these selected models to bring their creations to life on the runway. Confirmed designers for Bahamas Fashion Week hail locally and from overseas: Africa, New York, Abaco, Freeport, Eleuthera, New Providence, and the Cayman Islands. Such diversity can only peak one’s curiosity as to what is to be showcased live on the runway. International Guest Designer, Stevie Boi, will be in attendance.
Additionally, similar social media calls has been sent out to gather other contributing components for the success of this three-day extravaganza – volunteers, artists, and vendors (who are the main feature of the Cultural, Art, and Fashion Village). With positions being announced, a slew of applicants lined off respectively all for a chance to be a part of Bahamian history in the making.
In fact, on Saturday, October 7th, 2017, Bahamas Fashion Week hosted its Industry Party – a kick-off to Fashion Week at The Caves Village. And what a kick-off indeed! The Synergy Band entertained attendees with a mix of lively and soulful performances, followed by lit DJ dance 2 mixes to get everyone on the floor for this mix and mingle event. With a count of two-hundred to three-hundred appearances throughout the night, it was surely a site to see: the sophisticated, the bad, the bougie, and the fashionable!
