Time To Feel The Vibes
On Thursday, July 5th, Goombay Summer Festival will officially launch on Grand Bahama Island where attendees can look forward to four weeks of cultural celebrations inclusive of Independence weekend.
A traditional event for the island, Goombay Summer Festival highlights the local culture through showcasing the best in food, crafts, and entertainment.
As the festival is designed to heighten the visitor experience, increase visitor spend, and drive economic growth, Sanique Culmer, Manager, Groups & Events, Ministry of Tourism & Aviation, said, "We are pleased to officially announce the kick off of Grand Bahama Island's signature cultural event known as Goombay Summer Festival, which will take place every Thursday in July (5th, 12th, 19th and 26th ) from 6:00 pm until 12 midnight on Taino Beach."
This year, the event promises to be more dynamic with featured performances by D-Mac, Dyson Knight, Geno D, Elon Moxey, Veronica Bishop, Ira Storr and the Spank Band, Stileet, KB, the Grand Bahama District Police Pop Band and more.
Culmer added that "With the opening night of this year's festival being an official part of the island's national Independence celebrations, attendees can enjoy the conch and coconut demonstrations, nature walks, bush tea tasting, the Ministry's People-to-People experience and special surprises in the coming weeks, thanks in part to Kalik and Commonwealth Brewery who will, this year, play a major role in Goombay Summer Festival, in celebration of 30 years in operation."
The company will be an official partner of the event where they will "bring [their] signature Made in The Bahamas Festival to life in the second and closing weeks of Goombay Summer Festival."
The merger of two of the most iconic events on the island will not only result in a fantastic show but also a revitalized tourism product which those attending can enjoy.
In addition to cultural festivities, festivalgoers can expect to take advantage of free Wifi and tech pop up shop provided by fifth year partner — BTC. Trevor Turnquest, Vice President, Network & Engineering, BTC, said, "BTC is proud to be a sponsor of this year's Goombay Summer Festival and we hope that this year's festival will be a success."
Eris Hutchison, Representative, East Grand Bahama, City of Freeport Council, said, "We are getting the park prepared with safety, making sure everything is in place this year, and we are extending an invitation to all to enjoy the festivities and enjoy a clean and safe environment [next week]". "
Through continued support of event sponsors BTC, GB Power Company, Maecal Electronics, City of Freeport Council, Pharmachem, Kalik & Commonwealth Brewery/ Caribbean Bottling and the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Goombay Summer Festival will always remain one of Grand Bahama Island's most exciting events of the summer.
